Achor Achor continues the Mississippi State hot streak as he pledges to be a Bulldog.
Achor Achor commits to Mississippi State, which continues a busy week for the Bulldogs on the recruiting trail. Achor, unlike the previous two commitments this week, has plenty of experience playing college basketball, as State will be his fourth stop during his college journey. The Melbourne, Australia native played his prep career at Greenforest McCalep Academy in Georgia, where he played two seasons, which were both productive.
After a brief stint on the JuCo scene, Achor made his way to Alabama and signed to be a Samford Bulldog, and that is when the 6-9 230 pound forward took off. However, it did not happen right away, as in his initial season at Samford, he made only one start but appeared in 30 games. He played 14.4 minutes per game and averaged 6.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 57.7 percent from the field. It was a bit of a slow start for the youngster, but in his fourth season, he exploded.
Achor appeared in and started 33 games and worked his minutes up to 22.7 per game. During his time on the hardwood, he was dominant, averaging 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 58.6 percent from the field. In his final game as a Bulldog, he took on Kansas, and he dazzled, scoring 23 points and grabbing eight rebounds in 31 minutes. It was his breakout season, and Achor was ready to take his talents to a higher level, and he entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.
Once his name entered the transfer portal, he was in high demand. He ultimately landed in the Big 12 and became a Kansas State Wildcat. Naturally, there was going to be a learning curve for Achor, and his numbers dropped, playing only 13.3 minutes per game. However, in three of his final four games as a Wildcat, he played over 17 minutes per game. Unfortunately, that was his final bit of action during the 2024-2025 season as he left the team due to personal reasons, but when the season concluded, he once again entered the portal. He averaged 7.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 54.1 percent from the field during his limited action.
His best game was against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, in which he played 24 minutes, scored 21 points, and grabbed three rebounds. After veering away for a season, Achor is back to being a Bulldog, but this time in maroon and white. Achor joins Amier Ali (Arizona State), Sam Walters (Michigan), JaBorri MaGhee (UAB), and Quincy Ballard (Wichita State) in State's portal class. Bulldog head coach Chris Jans took a hit to his frontcourt during the offseason, losing both KeShawn Murphy and Michael Nwoko. However, Jans has bounced back and quickly rebuilt the frontcourt. The class currently sits at five members, and the spots are getting thin, plus Josh Hubbard could still return, so State will be selective on who it adds next
